AC Milan will sign a new central defender in the summer and Alessandro Buongiorno of Torino is a name very high up on their wish list, a report claims.

Today’s edition of La Repubblica (via MilanNews) reports that a meeting with Torino is scheduled soon to talk about Buongiorno. The Granata captain is a profile that has been popular for some time among the Milan management, and they will try again after being rebuffed in January.

He is a profile that ticks plenty of boxes: he would increase the Italian influence in the squad which is also fundamental in terms of UEFA squad lists, and above all he is a profile that suits the club’s philosophy given he is young, knows the league and can grow even more.

Buongiorno’s asking price starts at €35m and it must be remembered that Torino president Urbano Cairo gave the green light for his sale to Atalanta last summer, a deal that did not materialise due to the Italy international’s desire to stay but which proved there is a willingness to negotiate.

The source add that Milan wants to close the operation quickly, before Euro 2024 to avoid the risk of the price of the price tag rising or triggering auctions involving clubs who might be willing to pay more.
