It was a simple plan – find some dawgs.
And Robert Hunt, the new $100 million guard the Carolina Panthers signed during the first week of free agency, believes he is exactly that.
“I’d like to think I’m a dawg,” Hunt said on a conference call with reporters on Wednesday. "I think I just play the game the right way.”
Hunt's arrival in Charlotte comes when the Panthers desperately needed his services.
Bryce Young, the now-sophomore quarterback, was sacked 62 times during his rookie season. That is more than any rookie in NFL history besides David Carr, who was sacked 76 times during his rookie year.
Young's size is a concern if he continues to take a beating from opposing defenses. That is where Hunt comes into the picture.
At 6-foot-6, 330 pounds, Hunt has experience playing in front of a shorter quarterback in Miami Dolphins starter Tua Tagovailoa.
He will bring that experience to a Panthers offensive line desperate to keep its former No. 1 overall pick out of Alabama.

"I was brought here to play a physical game and also to try to set the pocket for Bryce, and that’s what I’m gonna try to do each day and every day,” Hunt said. “I would never look back at Bryce. I hope I won’t be, anyway. My goal is to try to stop people up front, man. And try to set the line for him, wherever that is, and give him time to throw the football.”
