Netflix 'Receiver' series to feature Vikings' Justin Jefferson

Will a new Netflix series reveal whether star wide receiver Justin Jefferson and the Minnesota Vikings are still on good terms?

On Tuesday, Netflix announced it's releasing "Receiver," a sequel to the hit series "Quarterback," this summer. Along with Jefferson, it will feature four other pass-catchers (Las Vegas' Davante Adams, Detroit's Amon-Ra St. Brown, San Francisco's Deebo Samuel and tight end George Kittle).

"Jefferson had a fascinating 2023 season," The Athletic's Alec Lewis wrote of Jefferson's potential storyline. "Intertwined with all of this was losing — which he despises — and questions about Minnesota's future at quarterback."

Minnesota is entering rebuilding mode after going 7-10 in 2023 and letting quarterback Kirk Cousins walk in free agency. The four-time Pro Bowler recently signed a four-year, $180M deal with the Atlanta Falcons.

The Vikings then signed bridge QB Sam Darnold to a one-year, $10M pact. Minnesota — which has the 11th overall pick and recently acquired the 23rd pick from the Houston Texans — should take another signal-caller in the draft, perhaps Michigan's J.J. McCarthy or Washington's Michael Penix Jr.

With the uncertainty at the most important position, it's fair to wonder if Jefferson, 24, wants to stay in Minnesota. The Vikings reportedly have no plans to trade him, but several teams would be interested if the three-time Pro Bowler became available.

"But to have fun with this, let's say Minnesota is offered two first-round picks for Jefferson," Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer wrote recently. "That sounds like it could be good for a Vikings team that's in the midst of a two-year roster reset, which might be accelerated by the departure of Cousins."

Fans should keep an eye on Jefferson — who has one year remaining on his rookie contract — to see if he's having second thoughts about his future with the franchise.
