Per reports, as well as apparent confirmation from defensive coordinator Jesse Minter, junior Michigan football defender Rayshaun Benny will miss Monday’s title game against the No. 2 Huskies.

Rayshaun Benny is a key depth piece at defensive tackle for Jesse Minter and his elite Michigan football defense. In the early stages of the Wolverines’ win over Alabama in the Rose Bowl, Benny went down with a leg injury and was seen wearing a cast after the 27-20 overtime victory in Pasadena, CA.

Now, with the team in Houston, TX, for the National Championship Game on Monday, it has been confirmed by M-Live and others that Rayshaun Benny will miss the title game due to his unfortunate injury against the Crimson Tide.

“Yeah, Rayshaun (Benny), unfortunate injury,” said second-year Michigan football defensive coordinator Jesse Minter on Saturday. “I think he’ll come out of it well down the road. But yeah, tough deal for him, and look forward to getting him back down the road.”

On the season, Rayshaun Benny has accounted for a solid amount of production alone on the Wolverines’ defensive line, recording 27 tackles, six tackles for loss, and one sack while appearing in all 14 games to this point. On Monday, without Benny suiting up, Michigan football will take the field in a National Championship Game for the first time in program history — a win over Washington could snap the program’s nearly 30-year-long title drought, dating back to Lloyd Carr‘s 1997 title run.
